Please don't judge my scrapbooks by my photography! The pages shown below look so much better in person.

BABY ALBUMS

This 12"x12" layout is extensively paper-pieced.

TEEN ALBUMS

One of the beauties of traditional scrapbooks is the way you can save memorabilia. I've learned how to make it interactive and yet completely protected. These invitations fit on the scrapbook page.

They also open up so you can see the entire panoramic photo/card.

Whenever possible in a mixed-theme album, I place events in one layout or two at most. These are coordinated so that the "reader" is able to easily identify the continuity of the event. Because the pictures were too gorgeous to crop, the pictures below depict a rare two-layout party. The background paper is bamboo-like in texture, and the red-striped paper has a metallic gold thread in it. Despite the fogginess of my photos, these pages were vibrant!

There are a couple of interactive features on the layout below. First, the invitation on the left opens out and the front piece is protected by its own protector. Second, the program on the right is held in place by a thin strip of vellum, but it (the program) is still completely removable if someone wants to look at the inside of it. Also, sometimes when the pictures are incredibly good and a mat just seems too indelicate, I will cut a thin groove out of the picture, creating a self-mat, as two of the photos here have.

I love the currently trendy look of scrapbooks with one or two photos per page, but that's just not feasible for the majority of my clients' layouts. Colorblocking (as shown in the layout below) is a way to completely fill the page yet make the most of your photos. The photos are unified by the design as well as the theme they have in common. I charge by the page, so I try to keep the cost of your album down by making good use of the space.

This page costs $15. The rest of the pages in the TEEN section cost $20 each, due to their special features.

MASCULINE ALBUMS

These pages were commissioned for a man's 80th birthday, which is on July 3. The family requested a patriotic theme. I created three 5" books full of photos and letters from friends, using stars and stripes on a navy background. Each person/couple had a hand-made tag to creatively mark their place in the album, and create continuity, while still leaving room for variations. I used silver wire to display the stars on some pages, in addition to brads, buttons, and ribbon. These three books were so big we numbered the pages and made an index! It was the largest puzzle I've ever done. He said it was the best gift he'd ever gotten. These pages are priced at $20/page.

On well-defined subjects in large photographs with unremarkable backgrounds, I like to cut the photos out as a silhouette for variety and to save space.

WEDDING ALBUMS

This wedding layout is full of texture. The wide brown stripe on the left is actual satin ribbon. Both the ribbon and the word WEDDING are overlaid with a cream-on-cream vellum, softening the dark color. A cream satin-edged ribbon is tied into a bow on top of the vellum. Smaller satin ribbon holds the name plate in place. The largest photo is actually two of the same shot in different sizes, layered together with spacers to create a 3-dimensional look. The right page uses more of the decorative vellum and satin ribbon to create a pocket for wedding and shower invitations and the wedding program. It's a little difficult to see that the corners of the photo on the pocket page are delicately cut out, in lieu of the usual matting, which would add a new, unwanted color to the layout. These wedding pages cost $25 each. (Total for the layout: $50)

BUDGET ALBUMS

The absolute cheapest way to scrapbook is to use 8.5X11 cardstock inserted into an acid-free page protector, in a binder-type album. There's not a lot of room for decorations, so the papers and title usually create the mood. The pictures become the focal point. Here are a couple of examples from the masculine album (above), which contained both sizes of page. Budget pages don't have to be solid-colored...printed papers keep them from being boring. These pages cost $10 each.

Many of my kids albums are done in this style. It's easier for little ones to handle a book done in this size.

DIGITAL ALBUMS

I made a simple album of a recent trip to Ghana. These are 11X8.5 (oblong).

I made a much more decorative one for a woman who wanted one page for each of her grandchildren with their current likes and dislikes and contact information. The large amount of text was offset by cool features like metallized brads and shadows behind embellishments to give a 3-D look.

I'm so far behind on my oldest daughter's albums (like the cobbler who's kids have no shoes) that I've been making her one small digital album each year for Christmas, hitting the highlights of her life in three-year sections. She's 25 and we're up through age 9! These books are 8"X8".

Digital albums are priced by the hour. Obviously, the more simple they are, the less they'll cost.  That doesn't mean they have to be plain like these. Decorative backgrounds don't take any more time than solid ones.

Customers may set a price limit and I will stick to it! As stated on the Get Started page, digital albums must be approved before they're printed, so changes can be made if more embellishment is desired.
